The Top 3 Signs Of Foundation Issues

Your home is most likely the most expensive thing you own, hands down. This is why it is important to make attempts to protect your home in the best way you can, and to ensure that it is fixed as soon as possible when there is an issue. Some things will cause more detrimental effects more than others, however, it is important that you know that your foundation is what your house relies on and sits on (literally!), to keep it standing as it should. There are various things regarding your foundation that have the possibility to go wrong, and when they do, you should not neglect them.

Wall Cracks

Wall cracks are a common fault in your foundation, and can also lead to basement waterproofing issues, which more or less go hand in hand. If you have wall cracks, this will jeopardize the stability of your home, and should not be ignored. However, it is a fairly easy thing to identify. When you identify a wall crack foundation issue, you will see either on the exterior or interior of your foundation walls exactly what you would think, a large crack which causes stability issues from your house settling. This can also cause things to happen when your house settles like the doors in your home sticking or appearing no longer even with the floor of your home.

Foundation Settling

Foundation Setting is an easy enough thing to diagnose if you know what to look for and how to look for it. When a home is new, it should be perfectly level from one side of the home to the other. If this changes, it will put huge stresses on the foundation of your home. This should not be ignored as a simple fix of putting in foundation piering, may become a very large issue with things like wall cracks, and floor cracks.

Cabinets moving away from the wall

Cabinets are typically mounted flush to the wall. A good indicator that your foundation has issues is that they appear to be tilting away from the wall. This typically follows the same ideology as when doors stick and do not open easily anymore.

How Soil Washout Causes Foundation Settlement

There are many issues that can affect the foundation of your home. These issues are sometimes amplified by severe storm especially around the foundation footing and any concrete you have around your home.

Foundation settlement occurs when the foundation of your home is not properly supported by the soil underneath. One of the main causes of a poorly supported foundation is soil washout. Soil washout occurs when large amounts of water wash away the supporting soils underneath your home causing voids to form. This can cause your foundation to sink and can even present itself as cracks in your foundation footer.

There are a couple of signs you can watch out for to help you identify if you have foundation settlement issues. Take a look below and check your home frequently for these signs.

  • Cracks in your foundation

Signs Of Mold Growth In Your Home

blog-cover

Do you have mold growth in your home? Below are some common signs to watch out for that could indicate that you have mold growing in your house.

Allergy Symptoms From Mold

If you have mold in your home then you may have symptoms that are similar to allergies. Common allergic reactions to mold can include sneezing, sore eyes, and a runny nose or nasal congestion.

Keep an eye out for worsening of your symptoms when you at home. If this is the case then it is especially likely that you could have mold growth. If your allergies are worse when you are in some other building, like your workplace, then there could be mold growing there instead.

Smelling Mold

When you have mold growth in your home, but it is not easily visible, often a moldy smell might be the only clue that it is there. Don't ignore mold odors if you can't see any mold. You should thoroughly inspect your home before your mold problems get any worse.

Visible Signs Of Mold Growth

The term visible mold growth might seem like it can be an easy indicator of mold growth, but often times it is not. Many people don't notice small amounts of mold growth and often assume that it is just dirt or soot. Sometimes people can simply ignore visible mold in their house.

If you can see mold growth, even it is just a small amount, you should take action immediately. Mold particles are microscopic in size and if there is visible mold in your home then you have a much larger issue than you may think. Small mold patches can spread quickly and the fact that there is any visible mold means that the conditions in your home are optimal for mold growth.

If you don't take care of mold immediately it will soon become a bigger problem. Visible mold growth can also be a sign that there is a much larger mold colony growing hidden away from view.

Sometimes you might not realize there is mold in your house, especially if it is unusual looking mold. Some mold growth looks white and thread-like. Other mold appears as clusters of small black spots. Mold can be black, gray-brown, gray-green or white in color. Mold growing behind wallpaper made of vinyl can even appear orange, pink or purple
